This is a practical course in the performing arts for 16-18 year olds. You will devise and perform in plays and learn dance, singing and mask making. You will get involved in productions and see professional musicals and stage shows. You may also take part in workshops with performing arts professionals.

You will choose some specialist units in either dance or acting and complete a final major project. The course is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C and provides a good basis to go on to further qualifications and progress to a career in the performing arts.

  • About the Course

You will normally work in a group as well as individually. Much of the work is practical, so emphasis is placed on your ability to work as a member of a team.

    You will study:

    • Dance
    • Singing
    • Acting
    • Production skills
    • Musical theatre
    • Performing plays
    • Devising
    • Mask making
    • The performing arts business

You will improve your English and maths and gain employability skills as part of the course.

At some points in the year when productions are scheduled, you will need to be in college for extra sessions to rehearse.

  • Entry Requirements

2 or more GCSEs at grade D / grade 3 or above, or successful completion of a Foundation Level course including functional skills in English and maths. You will have a workshop audition as part of your interview. If you need advice before you apply, please call 020 8326 2020 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. • Progression

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Dance or Performing Arts if you achieve a merit or distinction. Because this is an introductory course, the Level 2 Diploma will not normally lead directly into professional performance work.

  • Assessment Method

Assessment is through assignment based work. The emphasis is on practical performance, although there is a certain amount of written work required. The work is graded into pass, merit and distinction. In order to achieve the diploma you are required to pass all areas of the course.
