Health and Care Courses

The level 5 HND offers a strong, sector-related emphasis on practical skills development alongside the development of requisite knowledge and understanding. The qualification provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in their sector and their national recognition by employers allows direct progression to employment.

  • About the Course

    You will study:

    • Managing human resources within a health and social care context
    • Managing human finances within a health and social care context
    • Facilitating change within a health and social care context

    The course will be delivered through a series of lectures, seminars, presentations, independent study and tutorials.

  • Entry Requirements

    You should be aged 18 or over and have a relevant Level 3 qualification or at least one A Level in a relevant subject at grade A*-C or more than one A Level at grades A*-E. You will also need to have attained GCSE English and maths at Grade C / 4 or above.   • Progression

    A key progression path for HND learners is to a one year Top-up degree at university in a related field. Alternatively, you could take up employment with a Health or Social Care related organisation.

  • Assessment Method

    To gain the qualification each module must be successfully completed. Assessment is by a combination of coursework, assignments or projects.

    Most units on the BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) level courses are worth 15 UK credits. Students will be expected to commit at least 150 notional hours towards completing the learning outcomes per unit. This usually consists of a combination of around 60% direct teaching time and around 40% independent study time (e.g. preparations for research and assessments, background reading, etc).

    Note: The HND is awarded on completion of a minimum of 240 credits (of which a minimum of 125 credits must be at level 5).
