Health and Care Courses

This full-time higher education course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work in the health or social care sector at a supervisory or management level. You will undertake specialist studies relevant to your chosen vocation or profession, learn to contribute to the health and social care environment, and develop skills, personal qualities and attitudes essential for a successful career.

  • About the Course

    You will study:

    • Communicating in Health and Social Care Organisations
    • Principles of Health and Social Care Practice
    • Health and Safety in the Health and Social Care Workplace
    • Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care
    • Working in Partnership in Health and Social Care

    The course will be delivered through a series of lectures, seminars, presentations, independent study and tutorials.

    For the Level 4 Higher National Certificate, you must achieve a minimum of 120 credits in your programme (of which at least 65 must be at level 4). To be awarded the Level 5 Higher National Diploma, you must achieve a minimum of 240 credits (of which at least 125 must be at level 5).

  • Entry Requirements

    You should be aged 18 or over and have a Level 3 qualification and experience in a health and social care environment. If you have not achieved GCSE Maths and English at grade C / grade 4 or above, you will be asked to retake Maths and/or English qualifications alongside your HE programme.   • Progression

    You may wish to go on to the Higher National Diploma (HND). Depending on the specialist units undertaken, this qualification can lead to work in health care such as GP practice manager, hospital admin staff or care home managers; or in social care such as youth work, community project workers or managers, complementary therapist or young offenders team worker.

  • Assessment Method

    Assessment is through assignment work, case studies and presentations.
