We use the latest industry standard kit, including Davinci Resolve and Creative Cloud 2020. Students film on a range of DSLR cameras and have access to our kit room, which is regularly updated with new filmmaking kit. Our state of the art greenscreen and live-TV studios allow students to work in a range of industry environments and job roles, to best prepare them for the job gaps in the media marketplace.

We are specifically focussed on entry routes to employment, and students work to create a professional media portfolio backed up with a range of work experience. We have initiated educational partnerships with organisations including BAFTA, the British Film Institute and National Theatre Live, and as recently as this year our students worked with the team behind the John Lewis Christmas ads and with Hollywood actor James Mcavoy.

  • About the Course

You will normally work in a group of about 16 students, as well as individually, and emphasis is placed on your ability to work as a member of a team. The course is usually timetabled over three days. It is practically based but you will also gain an understanding of how the media industries communicate meanings to their targeted audiences. Practical projects will be taught in our state-of-the-art professional TV studio equipped with 3 multi-cameras, using the latest technologies in film editing such as Final Cut and Adobe Audition for radio production.

    You will study:

    • Research for creative media
    • Video production
    • Audio production
    • Media audiences and products.

In the second half of the course you will begin working towards a final major project.

You will improve your English and maths and gain employability skills as part of your course.

  • Entry Requirements
2 or more GCSEs at grade D / grade 3 or above, or successful completion of a Foundation Level course including functional skills in English and maths. After Level 3, past students have then gone on to study across the country at the top universities for media and film, including Bournemouth, Salford, Westminster and Ravensbourne. Past graduates have also gone on to work at Sky and Pinewood Studios, and to launch their own freelance businesses in media production. Some students also return for further study with us, on our HNC/D programme.

  • Assessment Method

Assessment is through assignment based work. The emphasis is on practical work, although a certain amount of written work is required. The work is graded into pass, merit and distinction. In order to achieve the diploma you are required to pass all areas of the course.
