Performing Arts Courses

This one/two-year course combines practical and theory based modules. You will learn a range of dance techniques and styles, including contemporary dance, commerical dance, classical ballet and jazz alongside choreography for group and solo performances. Theoretical modules include historical studies, contemporary studies and research to underpin your practical knowledge. You will also study small business management, professional practice, process and production and project realisation, enabling you to work on a major performance.

  • About the Course

    The course is delivered by enthusiastic staff with industry experience and combines practical and theoretical modules.

    • Urban dance
    • Classical ballet
    • Jazz
    • Dance for camera
    • The healthy dancer
    • Analysing dance
    • Choreography for group and solo performances
    • Historical and contemporary studies
    • Small business management
    • Professional practice
    • Project realisation.

    You will perform throughout the year in our Endeavour Theatre and during our Creative Arts Festival and you will work on a major performance.

  • Entry Requirements

    To study for the HND, you will need a previous qualification meeting a minimum of 160 UCAS points, such as:

    • A merit or distinction in Performing Arts or Dance at Level 3 including A*-C / grades 9-4 GCSE English
    • A Level in a relevant subject grade A-C
    • Other related Level 3 qualification
    Applicants without a formal qualification but with relevant work experience may be considered on an individual basis.

    You will have an audition as part of your interview.

  • Progression

    Second or final year of a BA (Hons) degree or a career as a dancer or choreographer.

  • Assessment Method

    The course is continually assessed through vocationally based assignments, finishing with a major project and an assessed performance.
