Maybe you started a course in September that wasn't right for you and you're looking for a new direction and a fresh start.

We've got a range of exciting new courses starting in January 2017 that will help you gain new skills and get a qualification. These courses are for students aged 16-18.

Get the experience you need to start an apprenticeship or progress on to a higher level course.

New Courses Starting in January

Introduction to the Hair, Beauty and Specialist Makeup Industries Level 1 Traineeship

  • What will I study? You will learn basic professional hair, beauty and makeup techniques. You will also complete a work placement in a salon.
  • What can I do next? Level 2 course in a related field or an apprenticeship.
  • Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements but you will have an interview.
  • Hours: 10 hours per week for 15 weeks.

Motor Vehicle Maintenance Level 1

  • What will I study? You will be introduced to the principles of routine vehicle maintenance and the methods that must be used to ensure this is carried out effectively.
  • What can I do next? Level 2 Motor Vehicle Maintenance course or an apprenticeship.
  • Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements but you will have an interview.
  • Hours: 10 hours per week for 15 weeks.

Electrical Installation Level 1

  • What will I study? You will learn the basic theory and practice of electrical installation. This course is designed as a starting point for those seeking to become trained electricians or study engineering.
  • What can I do next? Level 2 Electrical Installation course or an apprenticeship.
  • College certificate and unitised qualifications in vocational courses.
  • Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements but you will have an interview.
  • Hours: 10 hours per week for 15 weeks.

NCFE Cabin Crew Level 2

  • What will I study? You will be taught the practical skills and essential know-how required to work as Cabin Crew.
  • What can I do next? Level 3 Travel and Tourism course or employment.
  • Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements but you will have an interview.
  • Hours: 10 hours per week for 15 weeks.

NCFE Certificate in ICT Systems and Principles - Computer Maintenance Level 2

  • What will I study? You will learn about the different computer systems and their uses, connect computer hardware and configure computer software. You will also create a digital portfolio and learn how to use web authoring software. The portfolio will be used to promote the work you have done for each unit.
  • What can I do next? Level 2 BTEC Certificate/Extended certificate in Information and Creative Technology, Level 2 NCFE in IT User Skills or any other Level 2 qualification.
  • Entry requirements: You will need to have a basic understanding of computers and you will have an interview.
  • Hours: 10 hours per week for 10 weeks.

Digital, Media and Creative Level 2

  • What will I study? You will gain an insight into new digital media and learn practical IT, creative and other skills to work in Media or IT. You will study photography, graphic design, motion graphics and visual effects as well as learning the foundations of coding and web development.
  • What can I do next? Level 2 Creative Media Production or Information and Creative Technology course, a Business Administration apprenticeship, other related level 2 course or employment.
  • Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements but you will have an interview.
  • Hours: 10 hours per week for 15 weeks.

Performing and Production Arts Level 2

  • What will I study? The course is designed to develop your practical skills in drama, dance and the whole production process from technical theatre to performance. You will also be encouraged to develop analytical skills and acquire a broad knowledge of the way the performing arts business works.
  • What can I do next? Level 3 Performing Arts or dance course or employment.
  • Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements but you will have an interview.
  • Hours: 10 hours per week for 15 weeks.

  • What will I study? You will improve your English language skills through practical activities so that you can go on to further study or employment.
