This programme is designed to give you the skills you need to enrol on an Access course. It aims to raise the level of your basic skills, build your confidence and self esteem, and help you gain greater independence as a learner.

Level: Level 2

Mode: Full-time

Timetable:

This course is full-time (13 hours per week).
Students attend 4 days per week and study English, numeracy, sociology, psychology and study skills.

Start Date: 6 September 2010

Fees:

This course may be free if you are: in receipt of a means tested benefit; aged 19+ and don't already have a Level 2 qualification; aged under 19 years. Please see our Fees and Concessions page or call 020 8326 2301 for further details.

Who is This Course For?
The course is designed for students who are returning to study after a break and want to eventually go to university. It is ideal for students returning to education or whose first language is not English, who are not quite ready for the Access to Higher Education course.
Entry Requirements
You should have basic literacy and numeracy skills. There will be an initial assessment at your interview to make sure the course is suitable for you. We are especially keen to recruit students who lack confidence and/or formal qualifications and who want a fresh start. If you have any questions, please ask Admissions for advice.
About the course

You will study modules in:

  • English
  • Numeracy
  • Sociology
  • Psychology
  • Study skills

Guidance is available to help you decide what further education or training you would like to do. You will have a personal tutor to support you in your studies and to assist you with any personal matters. Learning support is available for dyslexia.

How will I be assessed?
You will work towards City and Guilds qualifications in literacy and numeracy and a Keyskills qualification in IT. All other modules will be internally assessed. Credits gained in the Literacy, Psychology and Sociology modules may be carried forward to the Access course at West Thames College.
Where next?
When you complete this course you may go on to an Access course leading to university.
