Who is This Course For?
Students who wish to prepare for a career in massage and/or go on to further courses in complementary therapies.
Entry Requirements
You must have a good general education and a good level of personal health. Preference will be given to students with knowledge of human biology.
About the course

You will study anatomy and physiology, the systems of the body and how they function, principles and effects of massage strokes and movements, and an overview of other approaches to body work. 20% of the course will be allocated to supervised (set and marked) homework. You will be taught by highly qualified professional tutors who specialise in anatomy, physiology and body massage.

The course covers the major systems of the body including muscular, neurological, skeletal, vascular, digestive, genito-urinary, respiratory, endocrine, the skin, cells and tissues.

You will study Swedish massage (classical movements):

  • Psychological and physiological effects and benefits of massage
  • Contra-indications to massage
  • The holistic approach.

These core subjects are a mandatory part of the course and are included in the examinations:

  • Client care and modesty
  • Professional ethics and conduct
  • Hygiene and sterilisation
  • Managing a business/clinic.

In addition to the course fee and salon charge (if applicable), you will need to purchase a beauty uniform, shoes and a textbook (£105 approx). These costs may be subject to change.

How will I be assessed?
  • Individual candidate feedback throughout the course
  • Continuous assessment for practical classes and theory.

Throughout the course we encourage candidates to give feedback on individual classes to help us monitor progress. You will also discuss your progress with your tutors throughout the course. Practical work is assessed on a continuous basis and theory work is assessed by written tests. You must attend a minimum of 80% of the course and have achieved a pass in all case studies to qualify for practical exam entry.

All our evening courses are designed so that you can progress from your present course to Aromatherapy, Sports Massage, On-Site Massage, Indian Head Massage, or the Beautician Diploma. Towards the end of your course, subject tutors will give you more details of our courses and can give you help and guidance in deciding your career objectives.
