This intensive part-time course consists of 3 hours per week at college plus study at home. It leads to a professional nail treatments qualification, the VTCT Diploma, which includes manicure, pedicure and business awareness. This qualification will enable you to work within the popular and fast growing nail industry.

Who is This Course For?

This is an intensive course for students who wish to make a career change or who would like an introduction to the beauty therapy and nail treatments industries.

Entry Requirements

You should have a good educational background. Good written English is essential in order to complete assignments and theory tests. You must be highly motivated and able to practice your treatments at home. We recommend that you spend at least 3 hours of home study per week in order to successfully achieve this qualification.

About the course

You will study the following subjects:

• Manicure and pedicure treatments
• Related anatomy and physiology
• Business awareness.

In addition to the course fee, you will need to purchase a nail treatments kit, a text book (approx £50), plus a professional beauty uniform and shoes (approx £60). These costs may be subject to change.

Additional Opportunities

You will have the opportunity to visit a major beauty and nails exhibition and trade fair held annually in London. This will incur an additional cost.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by means of the following:

• Assignments: You will need to complete a range of assignments at home which will be handed to your tutor for marking.
• Tests: Multiple choice theory examinations for the manicure/pedicure unit, and the business awareness unit
• Practical assessments: You will need to perform a range of treatments for assessment.

Where next?

When you successfully complete this course you may go on to other part time or full time beauty therapy and hairdressing courses at West Thames College, into employment in a nail salon, or become self-employed.
