Level: Level 2
Mode: Part-time
Start Date: Flexible start dates
Fees:
To be confirmed. Sorry, this is a full cost course and concessions are not available. In addition to your course fee, you will also have to pay for a CRB check (£36). These costs may be subject to change.
You should have Level 1 English. You will be given an entry test.
Work placement settings require students to obtain an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure to demonstrate that they are suitable to work with vulnerable people and/or children.
As part of this qualification, you will be required to build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate and prove your competency in a number of key areas.
You will be assessed by an external assessor on how you perform these skills with children in the workplace. You will have more control over your own development than ever before. NVQs provide opportunities for you to decide what you do and when your assessments will take place.
As this is a work-based learning programme, it is expected that you have the relevant direct experience in a care role with children to complete this qualification. You need to have been working within a child care setting (either paid or voluntary work) for a minimum of six months for a minimum of one full day per week.
The programme is designed in mandatory and optional units. In order to acquire the NVQ Level 2 you need to complete 6 mandatory units and 1 optional unit.
Mandatory units include:
• Contribute to positive relationships
• Help to keep children safe
• Support children’s development
• Use support to develop own practice
• Prepare and maintain environments
• Support children’s play and learning.
Optional units include:
• Contribute to effectiveness of teams
• Support development of babies and children under 3.
