PC Support Part 2 (A+)

This course is design to help you towards a career as an entry-level information technology (IT) professional or personal computer (PC) service technician. The PC Support A+ course is the first step in your preparation. It will build on your existing user-level knowledge and experience with personal computer software and hardware to present fundamental skills and concepts that you will use on the job. You will acquire the essential skills and information you will need to install, upgrade, repair, configure, troubleshoot, optimise, and perform preventative maintenance of basic personal computer hardware and operating systems.

Who is This Course For?
The course is suitable for people who already have some knowledge or PC Hardware and troubleshooting, as those who have been in the industry for years and just need to brush up their knowledge for the exams.
Entry Requirements

You should have experience in a computer hardware environment or have completed the PC Support Part 1 A+ course.

About the course

PC Support Part 2 (CompTIA A+)

PC Support Part 2 extends the knowledge and skills identified in CompTIA A+ essentials (operating systems) and troubleshooting. This course takes a hands on approach, focusing on scenarios in which troubleshooting and tools must be applied to resolve problems.

The following units are covered in the course:

  • Printers and scanners
  • Mobile computing
  • Various operating system installation and troubleshooting, i.e. Microsoft Windows, Linux and Apple Mac
  • Windows maintenance
  • Networking computers (wired and wireless)
  • Network troubleshooting and security.

All necessary resources for the course will be provided.

How will I be assessed?
There is no formal assessment for the course, although for your A+ certification you need to pay for and sit an external exam with an authorised centre. Examinations are in a multiple choice/multiple answer format and are 90 minutes in length.
Where next?
When you have successfully completed the course you will find your career prospects significantly enhanced. You may wish to go on to the Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) course at the college to develop your skills further.
