Timetable: This is a full-time course. You will attend college for three to five days per week, Monday to Friday, usually between 9am and 5pm. You will receive your timetable when you enrol.

Fees:
Home fee for 2010-11 £1345. In addition to your course fee, you will also need to pay a college registration fee, exam fee and materials charge, and purchase a kit. This course may be free if you are: aged under 19 years; in receipt of a means tested benefit; aged 19+ and you don't already have a Level 2 qualification. - Who is This Course For?
- Students with an interest in carpentry and joinery who wish to go on to a career in this field.
- Entry Requirements
- For the Foundation level you should have at least 2 GCSEs at grade D or above, including Maths and English or a Merit or Distinction BTEC Introductory Diploma in Construction. You will have an interview and an initial assessment. For the Intermediate level, you must have successfully completed the Foundation level.
- About the course
You will study all aspects of site carpentry, including:
- Timber framing
- Flooring
- Roofing
- Door hanging
- Staircases
- All first and second fittings.
The units are combined with technical underpinning knowledge related to the needs of the industry. You will also take a mandatory online health and safety test.
- Additional Opportunities
- There may be an opportunity to visit other sites and the Building Exhibition.
- How will I be assessed?
- The course is assessed through a combination of practical projects, written assignments and written tests. You will also have to complete a phase test and two multi-choice papers and provide work-based evidence.
- Where next?
- The course provides a good grounding for you to progress to a Level 3 course or start work.
