Mode: Full-time

Timetable: This is a full-time course. You will attend college for three to five days per week, Monday to Friday, usually between 9am and 5pm. You will receive your timetable when you enrol.

Start Date: September 2010

To be confirmed. In addition to your course fee, you will also need to pay a college registration fee, exam fee and materials charge, and purchase a kit.

Who is This Course For?
Students who wish to pursue a career in construction.
Entry Requirements
You do not need any formal qualifications but you must have an interest in construction. You will have an initial assessment.
About the course

The course is taught in specialist industry-standard workshops so you will gain hands-on practical skills. You will develop the skills and knowledge to work in construction. There is a strong tutorial package and additional support is available to help with your studies.

The course consists of 3 core units:

  • Starting work in construction
  • Working in construction
  • Developing skills in construction

Plus 2 personal skills units:

  • Personal effectiveness
  • Financial management

You will also study 3 specialist units:

  • Developing carpentry and joinery skills
  • Developing painting and decorating skills
  • Developing brickwork skills.
Additional Opportunities
You may have opportunities such as a visit to the Building Exhibition and on-site work experience.
How will I be assessed?
“Starting work in construction” and “working in construction” are assessed via an introductory project. All other units are assessed through practical coursework assignments.
Where next?
When you have completed the Introductory Diploma, you can specialise in your chosen subject at Level 2.
