ESOL for Adults

West Thames College offers ESOL courses for adult learners at all levels. We will interview you and give you an initial assessment to find out which level is right for you.

Level: Entry 1 - Level 2

Mode: Part-time

Start Date: Courses start in September, but you can enrol at other times during the academic year if places are available.

This course may be free if you are aged under 19 years or in receipt of a means tested benefit. Students taking Entry Level ESOL courses do not pay the college registration fee. Please see our Fees and Concessions page or call 020 8326 2301 for further details.

Who is This Course For?
Residents, asylum seekers and refugees whose first language is not English, who wish to learn English in order to go on to mainstream courses or to get a job.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course. You will have an initial interview and assessment to establish your level of English in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
About the course

All students take a core English course of 7 hours per week. These courses are offered at all levels from beginners and cover speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English. All courses have citizenship content and skills needed for successful study and work.

Additional Options: You can also choose to take courses in numeracy. This course is 2 hours per week, making a possible 9 hours per week total.

How will I be assessed?
All language classes follow the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum. You will take externally recognised Skills for Life exams at the appropriate level. You may also be able to take a qualification for the additional options courses.
Where next?
You may go on to another course or into employment. We will give you advice about further training and work opportunities.
