Who is this course for?
People who are working in health and social care and/or people who wish to gain a qualification in health and social care looking after adults.
Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but you will need to have a literacy assessment of Entry 3 or above. You need to have been working at least 16 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months in a care environment, either in a voluntary or paid employment capacity. You will need to bring a letter that confirms employment to your interview and have your manager's agreement for you to do the course.

About the course

The qualification is made up of mandatory and optional units. You will need to achieve a minimum of 46 credits (QCF Framework) to gain the full certificate.

The units will include:

  • Communication in health and social care
  • Equality and inclusion in health and social care
  • Introduction to personal development in health and social care
  • Safeguarding principles
  • Health and safety in health and social care
  • Partnership working in health and social care
  • First aid
  • The role of the health and social care worker.

You will follow an individual pathway and study optional units which are specific to your needs and your employer’s.

How will I be assessed?
There are no formal exams. You will be assessed by building a portfolio which meets the course criteria and by regular assessment in your workplace. The knowledge units will be assessed through written assignments.
