Who is this course for?
People who are working in health and social care for adults.
Entry requirements

A recognised Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification is required. You need to have a minimum of 12 months' paid work experience in a care environment for at least 16 hours per week. If you need advice before you apply, please call 020 8326 2020 or email ciag@west-thames.ac.uk.

You will need to bring a letter that confirms employment to your interview and have your manager's agreement for you to do the course.

About the course

The qualification is made up of mandatory and optional units. You will need to achieve a minimum of 58 credits (QCF Framework) to gain the full Diploma.

Units will include:

  • Promote communication in health and social care
  • Engage in personal development in health and social care
  • Promote equality and inclusion in health and social care
  • Principles of safeguarding in health and social care
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Promote and implement health and safety in in health and social care
  • Promote good practice in handling information in health and social care.

Optional units: You will follow an individual pathway and study optional units which are specific to your needs and your employer’s.

How will I be assessed?
There are no formal exams. You will be assessed by building a portfolio which meets the course criteria and by regular assessment in your workplace. Knowledge units will be assessed through written assignments.

You may go on to a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care or choose from a wide range of career paths in the health and social care sectors.
