Apprenticeship in Care - NVQ Level 2

This apprenticeship is for people already working or looking for work in health and care. It gives you the opportunity to earn money as you train, gain a nationally recognised qualification, and improve your career prospects. You will be assessed on and off the job and training is free - there's usually no cost to you or your employer.

Who is This Course For?
Care staff working directly with service users in a care setting, or those looking for work in this field.
Entry Requirements
You should be 16-24 years old and working or looking for work in health and care. You should usually have 2 or more GCSEs at grade D or above, or an equivalent Level 1 qualification. You will need to have a CRB check before enrolling on this course.
About the course

The course consists of 4 mandatory units and 2 optional units. Mandatory units include:

  • Communicate with and complete records for individuals
  • Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals
  • Develop your own knowledge and practice
  • Ensure your own actions support the care, protection and well-being of individuals.

You will choose 2 optional units from a range which may include:

  • Carry out and provide feedback on specific plan of care activities
  • Support individuals to access and use information
  • Help individuals to eat and drink
  • Support individuals with their personal care needs
  • Contribute to moving and handling individuals.
How will I be assessed?
You will work with an assessor who will observe your practice within your work setting. You will provide a range of different evidence to show that you have knowledge and practical competence. Your assessor will judge the evidence against national standards.
Where next?
You can progress in your job or go on to another course, such as an NVQ Level 3.
