Sport and Active Leisure - Level 1 BTEC Certificate (formerly Introductory Diploma)

This introductory course gives you the opportunity to study the sport and leisure industry and to play sport. You will learn about starting work in sport, the healthy body, personal effectiveness, financial management, taking part in sport, and organising a sport or leisure activity. You will also have work experience linked to the sport and leisure industry.

Level: Level 1

Mode: Full-time

Timetable: This is a full-time course. You will attend college for three to five days per week, Monday to Friday, usually between 9am and 5pm. You will receive your timetable when you enrol.

Start Date: 6 September 2010

Fees:

Home fee for 2010-11 £1245. In addition to the course fee you will need to pay an exam fee and materials charge.

Who is This Course For?
Students with an interest in sport.
Entry Requirements

You do not need any formal qualifications but you must have an interest in sport. You should have an Entry Level 3 literacy qualification or GCSE grade E in English. There will be an initial assessment and an informal interview to make sure that the course suitable for you.

About the course

You will study the sport and leisure industry and you will also have the opportunity to play sport. You will have work experience linked to the sport and leisure industry.

You will study eight units, including:

  • Working in sport
  • The healthy body
  • Personal effectiveness
  • Financial management
  • Taking part in sport
  • Organising a sport or leisure activity.
Additional Opportunities
There will be work experience opportunities as part of this course and you will organise your own sport or leisure event.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through assignment work. You can achieve a pass, a merit or a distinction. Basic Skills will be assessed through an external exam and a portfolio.
Where next?
When you complete this course you can progress to the Level 2 BTEC Diploma or NVQ Level 2.
