Foundation Travel and Business - BTEC Level 1 Certificates

Foundation Learning courses are designed to give you the skills to progress to Level 2. This course covers travel and tourism units from September to December, then business units from January to May.

Qualification: BTEC Level 1 Certificates

Level: Level 1

Mode: Full-time

Timetable: This is a full time programme of study of 16 hours per week. You will receive your timetable when you enrol.

Start Date: September 2013

Fees:

Home fee for 2012-13 £1390 including tuition and exam fees. Students aged 19+ will pay college registration and materials fees.

The course may be free if you are:

  • aged under 19
  • aged 19+ and in receipt of an active benefit (eg JSA or ESA)
  • aged 19+, unemployed and in receipt of a means-tested benefit (eg income support), and you are doing this course to improve your employment prospects
  • aged 19-23, have not taken this course before, don't already have a Level 2 qualification and aim to progress to Level 2.

Who is this course for?
Young people with few qualifications.

About the course

The course will encourage you to develop the practical skills and essential know-how required for today’s rapidly expanding world of travel and tourism. You will have the opportunity to develop both general and specialist skills. You will complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

This course covers travel and tourism units from September to December, then business administration units from January to June.

Travel and tourism units include:

  • Exploring customer service in travel and tourism
  • Personal effectiveness
  • Working in the UK travel and tourism industry
  • How to plan trips.

Business administration units include:

  • Creating business documents
  • Welcoming visitors
  • Working in business administration
  • Recording business transactions
  • Handling mail.

You will also study functional skills in English and maths.

Additional opportunities
The course includes visits and work based activities.
How will I be assessed?
All units are assessed via assignments which are individually graded. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
Where next?
If you successfully complete all the modules you can go on to the Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Travel and Tourism or Business.
