On Tuesday 20 April, HND Fashion and Textiles students from West Thames College showcased their incredible talents at Alternative Fashion Week 2010. Held in London's iconic Spitalfields Market, Alternative Fashion Week is the place to discover the original styles of some of the hottest up-and-coming designers, providing a vital stepping-stone between graduate shows and the mainstream fashion industry.
The ten students saw their designs take centre stage during a spectacular lunchtime catwalk fashion show. With the world’s press and key figures from the fashion industry in attendance, the students’ breathtaking ‘Retro Futuristic’ themed collection wowed the crowds with many shoppers and city workers taking time out from their lunch breaks to watch the display.
Emma Harrop was one of the West Thames College students displaying work at the event and even modelled the garment herself. “The show was a brilliant opportunity to highlight our work to the fashion world,” she said. “The buzz backstage was amazing and modelling my design on the runway was a fantastic experience.”
The nine other students featured during the show were Ana Morais, Karolina Kolanczyk, Nicholas Timmerman, Romina Tedin, Rachel Hibbert, Anu Jayasundara, Nana Owusu-Amankwaa, Deborah Akinpelu and Rita Calmel.
