Hairdressing student Ania Zmudzka has become the first West Thames College student to reach the national finals of the WorldSkills UK competition. After winning the regional finals at Barnfield College in Luton, Ania will now take on the country’s top hairdressers at the national finals in Birmingham on 15-17 November.
Originally from Poland, Ania has studied both hairdressing and barbering at West Thames and is now also studying beauty therapy. In 2012, she won the Determination prize at the college’s Student Awards Ceremony.
“I’m so proud to have reached the national finals, especially as I was so nervous before!” said Ania after her success. “We had to complete our designs within three and a half hours which was pressurised but in the end was such a rewarding experience. I am also really grateful to the college’s hairdressing staff as without their on-going support, I would not be in the position I am today. I’m now looking forward to representing both them and West Thames College in Birmingham.”
If Ania wins the competition, she will qualify for the Great Britain WorldSkills team and will represent the country at the world finals in Leipzig 2013.
