20 January 2012

During 16-20 January, West Thames College hosted a range of health-boosting activities and awareness events as part of Healthy You Week 2012.
Held during lunchtime at both the Isleworth campus and the Feltham Skills Centre, the five-day event saw students and staff join-in with a host of activities including energetic Zumba demonstrations from guest performers FlavaZ, rugby and gym sessions led by staff at the Skills Centre, a healthy eating workshop with Zest 4 Life nutritionist Emily Fawell, as well as advice sessions with Hounslow Stop Smoking Service, CRI for Drugs Awareness, Diabetes UK and Cancer Research.

One of the highlights of the week was a stunning Capoeira demonstration from members of the Rabo de Arraia Capoeira London Workshop. Capoeira, a non-contact martial art that combines elements of dance and music, proved so popular that the college’s Student Services department is now planning to introduce it as a regular fitness activity.
