22 January 2010
From September 2010, West Thames College will be solely responsible for the delivery of a new Society and Health Development (SHD) diploma at Level 3. The diploma will be run by a consortium comprised of West Thames College and four neighbouring schools including the Green School and Brentford School.
The four main themes in the diploma are community justice, healthcare, adult social care, and the children and young people’s workforce. In addition, functional skills, personal learning and thinking skills, work experience and student projects will be undertaken.
It will be delivered alongside the current National Certificate in Health and Social Care and Level 3 CACHE Childcare courses. This will improve progression options and increase students’ chances of studying subjects like criminology and forensic science at degree level, in addition to more traditional subjects like nursing, childcare and social work.
