Earlier this year West Thames College embarked upon an exciting cutting-edge experiment in teaching and learning. In January 2010 the College launched eGo (English on the Go), a project designed to enable ESOL learners to improve their English and literacy skills outside of the classroom.
Having won a bid for funding from MoLeNet to provide the technology, five ESOL groups were issued mobile phones and encouraged to explore a range of language-based tasks including:
Students said that using mobile phones had encouraged teamwork, as well as motivating them to generate their own resources and take control of their learning.
