On Friday 25 May, ICT student Farhan Tahir placed second in the WorldSkills UK Regional IT heats at North East Surrey College of Technology. He entered the Microsoft IT Technician category, which tests the competitor’s ability to configure hardware and software and set up a client/server network with a domain controller to specified requirements.

Twenty year-old Farhan started at West Thames College in 2007 as a Basic Skills student, and has progressed right through to Level 3. His second place finish at WorldSkills puts him in contention for the final at the Skills Show at Birmingham NEC this November, where the highest-scoring competitors across all the regional heats will be invited to compete.
