On Friday 13 November, students from the Pre-Access Preparation course visited Isleworth Crown Court as part of their sociology module. The students witnessed real-life hearings, observed sentences being passed to offenders, learned about the layout of a court building and interviewed a top barrister.
"This was a privileged chance for our students to observe convicted individuals being processed by the justice agents of society,” said Steven Saunders, Pre-Access Sociology tutor. "Abstract concepts regarding norms, values, socialisation and deviance, were brought to life in vivid and fascinating scenarios."
Pre-Access student Michelle Griffiths described the visit as, “hugely enjoyable,” adding that, “it was fascinating to learn the inner workings of the judicial system.”
