On Tuesday 22 May, West Thames College hosted its inspirational Specialist Makeup Graduation Show. The annual performance is now regarded as the must see event of the year with industry guests including Spob O’Brien, Head of Professional Development at Illamasqua, makeup designers Shaunna Harrison and Kate Benton and Alice Skidmore from the BBC Trainee scheme in attendance.
This year’s theme for the HND Specialist Makeup students was Creation whilst the BA Hons students’ theme was Artists - inspired by famous figures and art movements through past and present including Henri Matisse, Karol Bok, Vincent Van Gogh and Vault 49.
The fifty-five students spent hours perfecting their elaborate and intricate hair, costume and makeup designs – with an eccentric array of models representing the moon and the earth, the elements, minerals, diamonds and planets as well as art legends Dali, Klimt and Stephen B Whatley. Students had been researching since February ready for this, their final show, held in the college’s Endeavour Theatre.
Julia Townend, West Thames College Specialist Makeup Course Coordinator said, “This was a really professional show with an outstanding standard of work. Our audience was a mixture of industry hair and makeup artists and proud parents. It was extremely rewarding for me to see this great achievement after weeks of preparation and hard work by all the HE Makeup students. I felt very privileged and proud to head this course.”
