25 June 2009

On Thursday 25 June, the amazing achievements of 57 of the college’s most outstanding students were celebrated at the Hounslow Civic Centre.
The student awards ceremony, one of the most uplifting events in the college calendar, was attended by Deputy Mayor Barbara Harris and special guest speaker James Narh. The awards identify not only those who achieve academic excellence, but also students who have overcome difficulties in order to succeed, or have gone out of their way to help others.
James, a former West Thames College science student, is now a pioneer in Street Dance. After setting up G-Force Productions in 1990, he has since founded Britain’s Got Talent winning dance troupe Diversity. In an inspiring speech, he praised the students on what they’ve already achieved. “I am extremely honoured to be amongst such talented and hard working students,” he said. “I want to encourage you all to continue to follow your dreams and visions.”
Three students were chosen from the award winners to be the overall Students of the Year 2009. The winners were Sally Crouch for Academic Achievement Award, Prakash Navaratnarajah for Determination Award, and Cedric Liseo for Contribution to the College Award.
