The Corporation West Thames College is looking for individuals to join the Corporation to help shape the educational character, strategic direction and mission of the College.

We are specifically seeking interest from individuals with experience or background in education.

The Corporation includes people drawn from a range of backgrounds and experiences reflecting the community that the College serves. Their experience, knowledge and skills make a vital contribution to the continuing development of the College.

The Corporation is responsible for:
• The determination of the educational character and mission of the College and for the oversight of its activities;
• The effective and efficient use of resources, the solvency of the College and the safeguarding College assets;
• Approving annual estimates of income and expenditure; and
• Monitoring the performance of the College.

The role of College Governor is a non-remunerated voluntary position and involves a commitment to attend up to 6-8 meetings a year. Meetings are usually held on a Wednesday evening commencing at 18.00.

The work of being a governor is extremely rewarding as the Corporation ensures that teaching and learning is of a high quality and is a benefit for all students. Governors cannot be mandated to represent the views from specific interest groups. Governors work positively with one another, debate the issues whilst maintaining a constructive atmosphere listening actively to a range of viewpoints.

Contract: Permanent
Hours: 22 hours per week 
Salary: £17,021 - £22,819pa inclusive
Closing date: 28 February 2018

The purpose of the post is to teach Maths and ICT to 16-18 year old and 19+ students on apprenticeship programmes across a range of sectors. You may also be required to teach vocational and free standing maths and ICT qualification student’s courses from Entry level up to level 3 Maths and Functional Skills.

Knowledge and experience of assessing student work is also required due to the delivery mode of courses within this area.
