This course is designed for those who have achieved a L3 or have some experience of the performing arts and dance and who wish to extend their skills and knowledge. This course is combined for many units but will be streamed into the dance or performing pathways. You will be taught by industry professionals and have the chance to go to exhibitions trips, events and performances relevant to your specialism.
About the Course
An exciting and innovative course that specialises in contemporary, hip-hop and commercial dance practice. This 1 year course offers students the chance to study with a dynamic and skilled dance faculty. We explore Contemporary dance techniques, innovative theatre practice, hip-hop, commercial, jazz dance, performance projects, audition techniques and choreographic practice. You will have the opportunity to share your work in our tri-annual performance platforms and external dance events.
The faculty of dance will aid in supporting your growth and developing your skills as a dance artist, choreographer and performer. You will also explore the importance of arts administration and setting up performance events and supportive choreographic sharing's whilst studying critical response and analytical frameworks for dance analysis. On completion of the 1 year programme many students have progressed onto the 2nd year of the Higher National Diploma which can then lead to studying a top-up year, second or third year of a BA (Hons) degree at university, or conservatoire.

An opportunity to explore your creativity and develop your technique. If you are interested in making dynamic and innovative theatre, and refining your skills as a performer, then this is the course for you.
The course is structured around intensive technique training, with the opportunity to engage in your own creative journey. The outcome will be a Festival of Original Work, which will feature you as both performer and theatre maker, and this will be the major focus of your final term.
We will look at contemporary world theatre and embrace the widest cultural perspective. We will look at site specific theatre and the genre of performance art. Practical work will be underpinned with a rigorous critical analysis and your development will be under tutor guidance throughout.
Top industry professionals will give masterclasses and seminars. Regular trips, to regional theatre venues, are a feature of the course.
On completion of the first year programme, many students have progressed on to the second year of the Higher National Diploma, which can then lead to studying a top-up year on a B.A. Honours Degree Course with one of our partner universities.

Level 3, A levels or equivalent in performing, dance or a related qualification, or relevant industry experience for more mature students will be accepted. You will be interviewed for suitability.
Upon successful completion you can progress onto HND or to a university.
You will be assessed via practical observation throughout the year and research methods evidenced via blog submission.
