IT Applications - NOCN Level 2

This course focuses on common applications used in the workplace and the hardware components of computers, including PC maintenance.

Mode: Full-time

Timetable: This is a full time programme of study of under 16 hours per week. You will receive your timetable when you enrol.

Start Date: September 2013

Fees:

Home fee for 2012-13 £1070 including tuition and exam fees. Students aged 19+ will pay college registration and materials fees.

The course may be free if you are:

  • aged 19-23 and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification
  • aged 19-24 and have Additional Learning Support needs over £6,000.

If you are 19-23 and already have a Level 3 qualification, you will pay 50% of the course fees plus registration and exam fees.

If you are over 24 years you may be eligible for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan.

Who is this course for?
Adults who wish to develop their skills in IT.
Entry requirements

ESOL Destination Business and ICT or another relevant Level 1 qualification. You will need to have a good record of attendance and behaviour on your previous course. If you need advice before you apply, please call 020 8326 2020 or email ciag@west-thames.ac.uk.

About the course

You will study a range of units covering:

  • Web design
  • Hardware components of a PC
  • Common IT applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets and databases
  • The internal parts of a PC and how they can be maintained
  • Multimedia.

You will have a tutor who will support you throughout the course and make sure your learning needs are met.

Additional opportunities
You may go on trips and visits, and if you develop your skills sufficiently you may have the opportunity for a two-week work experience placement. This will give you a chance to put the skills and knowledge you have learned on the course into practice.
How will I be assessed?
All units are internally assessed using a range of assessment methods such as case studies, written reports, presentations, exams and practical tasks.
Where next?
If you achieve a merit or distinction, you can go on to NOCN Level 3 or the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Software Development or Systems Support.
