West Thames College's Skills + Logistics Centre in Feltham came alive last week as students and staff celebrated Black History Month with an exciting lunchtime event filled with live music, delicious food and community spirit.
West Thames College students took part in the Student Takeover at the Opportunity Conference, putting their questions directly to a panel discussing the theme “Good Jobs, Not Just More Jobs”.
We were delighted to welcome Tonya Toon, Senior Director at Microsoft EMEA, and Louis Brooks, Director at Microsoft/SoftServe, who delivered an inspiring presentation to more than 70 IT, Business and Digital Technology students at West Thames College.
Students packed the college theatre to hear Paul Muhammad, West Thames College Lecturer in Media, deliver a powerful and engaging Black History Month talk, exploring the rich history, innovation and achievements of Black people that are often overlooked in mainstream education. From the Nubian Empire and the Moors to Black British history, the session challenged stereotypes and encouraged students to think more deeply about the stories behind the history they learn.
