This course provides an introduction to the motor vehicle industry and will enable you to develop skills in car maintenance. It is held two evenings per week in the specialist motor vehicle workshops at our Skills Centre in Feltham.

About the Course
You will develop knowledge and skills in:
- Health and safety practices in vehicle maintenance and good housekeeping in the automotive environment
- Tools, equipment and materials for vehicle maintenance.
You will study:
- Introduction to the retail automotive maintenance and repair industry
- Spark ignition engine systems, components and operation
- Compression ignition engine systems, components and operation
- Steering and suspension systems components and maintenance (4 wheels or more)
- Vehicle braking systems components and maintenance.

Entry Requirements
Applicants with no GCSE passes (or equivalent) or those not studying towards GCSEs will be offered a place on our Level 1 provision. To study on this programme students will need to demonstrate an ability to achieve Level 1 English and maths by the end of the course. This provision is appropriate for applicants with additional support needs and/or an EHCP.
Next move - Depending on level achieved, progress onto a Level 2 course, an Apprenticeship or employment.

Assessment Method
The qualification has a practical approach to assessment and includes many visual questioning techniques. The learning outcomes are assessed by a variety of task based assessment, observation, oral questioning and online assessments.
