This T Level qualification has been developed in collaboration with employers, so the content meets the needs of industry and prepares you for work. It will provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door to skilled employment, an apprenticeship or higher-level study.

An alternative to A levels, apprenticeships and other 16 to 19 courses.

A qualification equivalent to three A Levels carry UCAS points for progression into Higher Education, and prepares students for apprenticeship and employment.

The Technical Qualification is the main classroom-based element of the T Level. During your two-year course, you will learn the core knowledge that underpins the Science sector, and you will also develop occupationally specific skills that will allow you to enter skilled employment within a specific occupation.

Industry placement of at least 45 days to apply the knowledge, skills and behaviours required in the Science sector.

  • About the Course

The T-Level Foundation Programme is a one-year course, ideal for students who are looking to progress onto the Level 3 T-Level technical qualification in Science. This programme will help you to develop a broad range of skills, knowledge and behaviours across the five aspects that you need for successful progression to T-Level Science:

    • Industry-relevant technical knowledge and skills
    • Knowledge and skills for the workplace
    • Positive attitude and behaviours
    • Skills for successful study

    English, maths and digital skills

To support the five areas above, the Foundation programme components include:

    • L2 Award in Principles of Applied Science
    • GCSEs in Maths and English
    • Personal development and study skills projects
    • Work experience and work-related activities
    • Digital skills
    • Pastoral support

The Science content of the course has been designed to provide students with the technical knowledge, skills and understanding essential for the Science sector and provide firm foundations for what will be covered in the T-Level Science.

Relevant and meaningful personal development and enrichment opportunities will support students to develop the study skills they will need for success on T Levels and the positive behaviours and key transferable skills for success in the workplace.

Work experience and work-related activities form an important element of the Foundation Programme as this will give students a broad introduction to their chosen T Level route through industry-relevant technical knowledge and practical skills.

You will continue working towards achieving a GCSE grade 4 in English and/or maths if you do not already have this. You will also learn how to apply the English, maths and digital skills that matter in the science sector. Weekly tutorial sessions will provide responsive pastoral care; and develop knowledge and behaviours that promote wellbeing and support students' engagement with their learning on the programme.
