West Thames College has donated 30 laptops to Hounslow’s Promise, a local charity led by Seema Malhotra, to help improve access to technology for young people across the borough.
The laptops, previously used by the College, became available following a recent upgrade of its IT systems to enhance security and deliver a state-of-the-art digital learning experience for students. Rather than disposing of the equipment, the College chose to support the local community by repurposing the devices for those in need.
Hounslow’s Promise is a borough-wide initiative established in 2017 that brings together schools, businesses and community organisations to support young people. The charity focuses on improving educational attainment, employability, leadership and social mobility, while also delivering practical support such as mentoring programmes and schemes that provide devices and connectivity to students who might otherwise lack access.
Marta Gajewska, CEO and Principal of West Thames College, said: “At West Thames College, we are committed to supporting our local community and widening participation. In an increasingly digital world, access to technology is essential. As well as offering digital skills courses for adults and young people, we are committed to helping improve access to technology so that fewer people face barriers to information, learning and opportunity.”
The donation will support Hounslow’s Promise in its mission to ensure that every young person has the tools and opportunities needed to succeed, reinforcing a shared commitment between the College and the charity to reduce digital inequality and empower the next generation.
By working together, West Thames College and Hounslow’s Promise continue to demonstrate how local partnerships can make a meaningful difference in improving life chances for young people across Hounslow.
