West Thames College has marked a major milestone with the success of its first-ever cross-college Sports Day, bringing together students from across its campuses for a day of competition, connection, and community spirit.
Organised by the Student Experience team, the event attracted a strong turnout of both participants and spectators, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere throughout the day. Students cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines, adding to the sense of excitement as competitors took part in a range of sporting activities.
The competition featured four key sports: table tennis, badminton, basketball, and football. Each event highlighted not only athletic ability but also teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship. From high-energy basketball games to intense table tennis rallies, the day offered something for everyone and kept energy levels high from start to finish.
A standout aspect of the event was the strong sense of unity across the college community. Students from the Skills Centre and Isleworth campus participated side by side, forming new friendships and strengthening connections.
Obiora Offiah from the Student Experience team emphasised the wider impact of the event, saying:
“Sports Day is fantastic—it allows students to come together and gain confidence. It was also great to see our students from our two campuses coming together.”
Competition across departments was fierce, but the Skills Centre emerged as overall winners, marking an impressive achievement. All participants were praised for their enthusiasm and positive attitude.
Senior Student Experience Coordinator Jazz Sidhu highlighted the importance of initiatives like this, noting that events such as Sports Day play a key role in promoting wellbeing, encouraging active lifestyles, and fostering a strong sense of belonging within the college.
Following the success of this year’s event, the college hopes to establish Sports Day as an annual tradition, with plans to involve even more students in the future.
