West Thames College is celebrating an outstanding achievement after its students excelled in the Further Education Maths Challenge 2026, securing top honours at both regional and national level.

Competing against thousands of students from colleges across the region, West Thames College's teams delivered exceptional performances at the Regional Final, demonstrating the strength of mathematical talent and teamwork within the college.

Leading the way was The Funkies team, comprising Keiran, Ashima and Alessia, who achieved an impressive 1st place in the Regional Final before going on to be crowned National Champions, earning Gold medals in the competition. Their success marks one of the college's most significant achievements in the Maths Challenge to date.

The college also celebrated success from the Go Forth team, made up of Ahmed, Yevhen, Miski and Aldrin, who secured 3rd place in the Regional Final and were awarded Bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the EIN2STEIN team, consisting of Asra, Seyed, Mathumitha and Khadeejah, achieved an excellent 4th place in the Regional Final, further highlighting the depth of mathematical talent across the college.

Inderpal Chandel, Curriculum Quality Team Manager (CQTM) for Maths at West Thames College, praised the students for their achievements.

"Our students competed against thousands of learners across the region and achieved remarkable results. To secure first place in the Regional Final and then go on to become National Champions is an exceptional accomplishment. We are incredibly proud of every student who represented the college."

The success has been further recognised with the announcement that West Thames College has been selected as a Regional Centre for the 2026–2027 Further Education Maths Challenge, reflecting the college's growing reputation for excellence in mathematics education.

Speaking about the recognition, Inderpal added:

"Being chosen as a Regional Centre for next year's competition is a fantastic endorsement of the quality of maths teaching and learning at West Thames College. It demonstrates the strength of our maths provision and the ambition and dedication of our students."
