National Apprenticeship Week celebrates the important role that apprenticeships play in providing valuable skills, training and employment opportunities to individuals across various industries. This year, National Apprenticeship Week took place from 5th-11th February 2024 and it was a time to shine a light on apprenticeships as a pathway to successful careers.

By learning on the job and gaining practical experience, apprentices develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their chosen field.

It was a busy week for us. Here is what we got up to:

Our Apprenticeship team kicked off the week by setting up a lunchtime stand in the college's atrium to offer advice and guidance to students who are interested in starting an apprenticeship at West Thames College.

Our Apprenticeships team also visited West Middlesex Hospital where they engaged with NHS staff and members of the public about the pathways on offer at the College.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Heathrow Academy to our Isleworth campus. They spoke to our Level 3 students about job opportunities at Heathrow Airport. Apprenticeship opportunities were discussed, and our students left the session feeling very informed.

Our Marketing and Apprenticeships teams attended the Apprenticeships Marketplace Job Fair at Hounslow House. Our teams spoke to members of the public about our apprenticeship pathways and discuss the local growth sectors, which include: Digital, IT, Public Services, Health and Care, Construction and Green Skills.

Two Amazon apprentices visited our Isleworth Campus, who work in the accountancy and project management department at Amazon. They shared first-hand experiences, offering students insights into their roles and Amazon's diverse apprenticeship pathways. This was a great opportunity which contributed to our students' professional development to inspire their future pursuits.

As we reflect on National Apprenticeship Week, it is important to recognize the valuable role that apprenticeships play in shaping the future workforce and providing individuals with the skills they need to succeed. By supporting apprenticeship programs and promoting their benefits, we can ensure that more individuals have access to quality training and opportunities for their careers.
