From 9 to 13 February, West Thames College proudly celebrated National Apprenticeship Week with a packed programme of events, employer engagement and inspiring apprentice stories. The week highlighted the power of apprenticeships in transforming lives, supporting local businesses and building a skilled workforce for the future.
Employer Engagement and Industry Collaboration
Alongside student stories, the College’s Apprenticeships team demonstrated a strong presence at key recruitment and employer events. Early in the week, the team attended a recruitment event with World Duty Free, connecting employers with potential future apprentices.
The team also represented the College at Hounslow’s Limitless Apprenticeships and Jobs Fair, further strengthening relationships with local employers and showcasing the wide range of opportunities available to young people and adults in the borough of Hounslow.
Bringing Employers Together
One of the highlights of the week was the Apprenticeships Breakfast Event at the College’s Isleworth campus. The event brought together employers, partners and stakeholders to discuss workforce development, skills shortages and the role apprenticeships play in driving economic growth across West London.
The biggest day of the week was the Understanding Logistics event at the College’s Skills + Logistics Centre in Feltham. The event welcomed local logistics business leaders and government representatives, who explored the wide range of career pathways available in the rapidly growing logistics and supply chain sector. Prospective students gained first-hand insight into this vital industry and the opportunities available through apprenticeships.
A Successful Logistics Event
The College’s Logistics event, also held in Feltham, proved to be a tremendous success, with strong attendance from employers, partners and prospective learners. The event demonstrated the importance of collaboration between education and industry in addressing skills gaps and supporting local economic development.
Showcasing Real Apprentice Voices
Throughout the week, the College put apprentices at the heart of the campaign by sharing their real experiences and journeys. Students heard directly from current apprentices across a range of industries, gaining valuable insight into the benefits of learning while earning.
The series began with Sam, a Level 3 Electrical apprentice, who spoke about his positive experience and how the hands-on nature of his training has helped build his confidence and skills. Zoe, a Level 3 Carpentry and Joinery apprentice, also shared her story, encouraging others to consider apprenticeships as a practical and rewarding pathway into industry.
Later in the week, Mergim, a Painting and Decorating apprentice, offered his perspective on developing his craft and the strong support he has received from both his employer and the College. The week concluded with Humza, a Level 3 Electrical Installation apprentice, who shared his journey, advice and aspirations for the future, inspiring prospective students to follow a similar route.

National Apprenticeship Week 2026 has once again highlighted the vital role apprenticeships play in creating opportunities, supporting employers and building confidence in learners. Through real-life stories, employer partnerships and community engagement, West Thames College continues to champion apprenticeships as a powerful and accessible route into skilled careers.
