At the beginning of October, students from West Thames College’s Skills + Logistics Centre attended the Equans Data Centers Health & Safety Event, with Bouygues UK at Data Hall in Stockley Park. The visit offered students a valuable opportunity to gain real-world insight into how leading construction and engineering companies maintain the highest standards of health and safety across complex project environments.
Amar Singh, West Thames College Employability Coach, said:
“It was a great event — students were really engaged and asked lots of questions. For this year's topic, we discussed Golden Rule #3: always wearing appropriate protective equipment and using the correct tools.”
This year’s Health & Safety event focused on educating and engaging employees, partners, and clients about the importance of using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and tools on site. The initiative supports both companies’ shared commitment to achieving the highest Health & Safety standards across all areas of their business operations.

Later in the month, Bouygues delivered a Health & Safety workshop and industry introduction at the Skills + Logistics Centre for our Carpentry, Electrical, and Multiskill students.
“It was a really engaging session, and the students gained valuable insight into safe working practices in the construction industry,” said Amar.

Separately, the College was delighted to host a workshop delivered by SSE Electrical Solutions for students at the Skills + Logistics Centre.
“It was an engaging and informative session that gave students valuable insight into safe working practices within the electrical industry and the apprenticeship opportunities available,” Amar added.
A highlight of the SSE session was hearing from one of SSE’s current apprentices, who shared his inspiring journey and first-hand experience of training within the industry.
“It was fantastic for our students to hear directly from someone currently working in the field — it gave them real insight into what a successful apprenticeship and career in the electrical industry can look like,” said Amar.
These collaborations demonstrate West Thames College’s strong links with leading employers and our ongoing commitment to preparing students with the knowledge, skills, and industry connections needed for successful careers in construction and engineering.
