West Thames College's Logistics Hub is proud to announce a strengthened partnership with Rail Futures Network Ltd to deliver a comprehensive, industry-approved Railway Engineering and Personal Track Safety (PTS) training programme. Designed to meet national and Network Rail standards, the programme equips learners with the technical skills, hands-on experience, and safety knowledge required to begin a successful career within the rail sector.

Combining classroom-based study with practical on-track training, the programme ensures learners gain both the theoretical understanding and real-world experience needed to operate safely and confidently in this safety-critical industry. All practical activities and assessments are delivered in line with Network Rail regulations, ensuring full compliance from day one.

Course Structure

Level 2 – Rail Engineering Track Maintenance
Delivered over six weeks, this intensive programme includes Internal Quality Assurance, plant and tools training, PPE provision, medical and drug/alcohol screening, and full Safety Critical Training (PTS, TIC, OLEC1/DCCR). Successful learners achieve a Network Rail Sentinel registration and a Small Plant competency card—key requirements for entering the rail workforce.

A Clear and Supported Learner Journey

From initial enquiry to employment, learners receive structured support at every stage:

  1. Pre-enrolment Information, Advice & Guidance (IAG).
  2. Eligibility and health checks completed by the Recruitment Team.
  3. Weekly contact and guidance from a dedicated Business Support Consultant.
  4. Issuing of Network Rail-approved PPE before practical sessions begin.
  5. Completion of Safety Critical Training and Sentinel registration.
  6. Employment progression support, including primary and sub-sponsorship opportunities.

Employment & Sponsorship Opportunities

Upon completing the programme, learners are supported to secure a Primary Sponsor through Rail Futures Network Ltd, enabling them to work safely on Network Rail-managed infrastructure. Progression to White Hat status is monitored through work experience and shift data, with monthly destination reporting to track employment success.
